New Software Upgrade Improves Performance in Congested RF Areas. Operators to return to EUROCONTROL Logon List.

Redmond, WA – February 17, 2022 – Spectralux has released MOD 6 for operators of its Dlink+ with Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC). Installation of the new MOD 6 software allows aircraft to be placed on EUROCONTROL’s logon list, which enables an airline to use a data link from all EU Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP) utilizing the Logon List.

EUROCONTROL advised Spectralux that Dlink+, up through and including MOD 5 system software, would no longer be eligible for the Logon List. Spectralux immediately began work on the development of MOD 6 software. The inability to logon to the EUROCONTROL list for CPDLC services did not impose operational restrictions on airlines, and aircraft could still be controlled by VHF voice.  Installation of the MOD 6 upgrade will allow operators to again logon to the list and use the ANSP data link.

The new MOD enables Dlink+ w/CPDLC operators to return to active service within EUROCONTROL’s logon list today and into the future,” said Bryan Sammons, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Spectralux. “In addition, MOD 6 improves VHF Data Link Mode 2 (VDLM2) performance, reducing the number of Provider Aborts when operating CPDLC on an Aeronautical Telecommunications Network (ATN).”

For A320 series aircraft, the new MOD enables operators of to send Aircraft Condition Monitoring System (ACMS) reports.

Changes incorporated into MOD 6 also addressed:

  1. 3D position downlink in the VDLM2 XID frames missing in some configurations
  2. ATN protocol improvements
  3. Improvements to the VDLM2 and station tuning

New configuration databases were prepared, and operators affected will be notified as soon as they are available. As some communication service providers use the 3D position to autotune avionics from the Common Signaling Channel (CSC), this revision should also enable improved performance by reducing congestion on the CSC.
