ATLANTA, GEORGIA, April 25, 2016 – Today Spectralux Avionics announced availability of its dual stack FANS 1/A, and ATN Link 2000+ CPDLC Data Link Solution for commercial air transport, regional, and business aviation aircraft. The all-in-one data link solution, named Envoy™, was unveiled at the AEEC|AMC.
Spectralux Avionics Envoy solution provides flight crews the capability to send and receive Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) and Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting Systems (ACARS) messages over Very-High Frequency Digital Link (VDL) Mode 2 and SATCOM networks. Commonly referred to as “Dual Stack”, Envoy provides CPDLC compliance with both ATN and FANS networks. It also provides a flexible ACARS solution to satisfy the most demanding requirements of airline flight operations and maintenance departments. The solution will enable airline customers, aircraft leasing companies, and operators to meet all FANS 1/A CPDLC mandates with an all-in-one solution
“This solution gives our customers the opportunity to achieve compliance with all CPDLC mandates, across the North Atlantic, and Europe. It also provides operators the ability to achieve Best Equipped, Best Served status positioning them to take advantage of the FAA NextGen initiative,” said Bryan Sammons, Spectralux Product Manager for Envoy. “Based on our market research we understand owners and operators are looking for a cost effective solution to comply with CPDLC and pending Global Flight Tracking mandates. They also have objectives to drive operational efficiency and the inclusion of AOC ACARS capability in Envoy allows our customers to do this.”
Frank Hummel, Director of Engineering for Spectralux, also discussed his views on Envoy. “The Envoy Data Link Solution is unique. The certified unit will contain the functionality of three separate avionics modules: Communications Management Unit (CMU), Control Display Unit (CDU), VHF Data Radio (VDR) within a single compact unit. This data link is unique in that it contains a “Dual Stack” application that allows the aircraft full CPDLC capability. This permits communications on both FANS 1/A (via SATCOM, Iridium, or Inmarsat, and VDL Mode 2), and Aeronautical Telecommunication Network (ATN) over VDL Mode 2in Europe.”
Spectralux, expects to shortly announce agreements with channel partners who will develop certification packages, and installation kits for the new data link solution. Spectralux Avionics will provide select channel partners with hardware, software, technical data, and engineering support services necessary to help them develop European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Supplemental Type Certificates (STC). The product will be available for integration testing in Q2 2017, and production units will begin shipping in Q3 2017.
