Auditing Spectralux
Spectralux maintains an internal audit program which meets the requirements of AS 9100. We are AS 9100 certified via BSI, an approved aerospace registrar. Our assessments are available on the Online Aerospace Supplier Information System (OASIS) database. Our repair station is FAA certified and we undergo routine FAA repair station audits as well as Coordinating Agency for Supplier Evaluation (C.A.S.E.) audits.

Our customers are welcome to perform system audits of our company throughout the year. We welcome this activity as a way to understand your commitment to quality and view it as an opportunity to improve our systems. Please contact us to set an appointment.

Inspection and Testing
Inspection and testing may not be used to substitute for good quality practices. Inspection and testing is done to verify that materials and products meet the requirements and specifications of Spectralux Corporation and our customers. Inspection and testing is also used to verify that our good quality practices, and those of our suppliers, are in place and adequate. Checks are conducted when materials, components or products are received, at significant stages of production, and prior to release of finished products. Release of material or product at any stage, prior to completion of required inspections or testing, is strictly controlled, and the product is identified for later retrieval if necessary. Records are maintained of all formal inspection and testing activities.

Quality Definitions

100% Inspection
The process of inspecting each characteristic with a design requirement for every part within the lot, using appropriate inspection techniques. In-process and final inspections shall check 100% of parts visually unless other sampling methods have been approved.

Acceptance Sampling
An inspection technique in which characteristics of a small, representative number of parts are examined to determine the disposition of the larger group. Acceptance sampling is a low cost alternative to 100% inspection.

External Requirements
Industry standards, regulatory and customer requirements. SLC is committed to meeting the following external requirements: Aerospace Standard (AS9100), applicable FAA and EASA regulations, and customer requirements.

First Article Inspection (FAI)
An extensive inspection of the first new item or of a modified item, when the item’s form, fit or function has changed due to revisions or new parts or when parts are being purchased from a different vendor.

Inspection / Inspection System
ISO defines "Inspection" as "Conformity evaluation by observation and judgment accompanied as appropriate by measurement, testing or gauging". The FAA requires that SLC maintain an "inspection system that ensures that each completed part conforms to its design data and is safe for installation on applicable type certificated products". SLC's inspection system determines conformity to design data for incoming parts, for completed product, and for in-process assemblies at points where accurate determination can be made.

Receiving Inspection History File
Inspection data for every part number used in the manufacture of a product. The file contains contract requirements defined as inspection and test criteria, sample sizes and the part characteristics that must be measured or verified.

Partial (delta) Inspection
A First Article inspection which covers less than 100% of an item's dimensional or functional requirements.

Statistical Process Control (SPC)
A systematic method of tracking, predicting and minimizing process variation over time. SPC may be used for in-process inspection.
